The newly remastered Dark Souls PC edition has avoided many pitfalls of the classic “Prepare to Die” version.
Dark Souls wasn’t exactly something PC fans got excited about at launch. The “Prepare To Die” edition featured poor keyboard controls, a nonadjustable resolution, and various other problems the modding community needed to fix. The good news is that Dark Souls Remastered seems to have avoided many of these problems, raising the experience to be on par with the console versions.
This report comes courtesy of DigitalFoundry, who published a video comparing the remastered game with the Prepare to Die and the Xbox One X editions. Right from the start, you can adjust your in-game resolution, and UI and HUD elements will render natively at the option you select. And that’s not getting into options like buffering, motion blur, and anti-aliasing, which are also included. While there aren’t quite as many options to tweak as hardcore PC players are used you, comparative videos do show this is a vast improvement on Dark Souls Prepare to Die.

The video descends into technical jargon moving forward, so you watch it for full details. The main summary is simple: Dark Souls Remastered doesn’t have much in the way of new content, but offers superior post-processing options. On the one hand, this means casual players will have a much better experience loading the game onto their system and jumping in right away. On the other, players who prefer to tweak their systems for highest performance aren’t going to gain as much of a benefit as you might hope.
Thankfully, these options do ensure that Dark Souls Remastered is the best looking version of the game on PC, even if you can’t tweak everything you’d like. And perhaps that’s enough, especially if you’re a fan who avoided Prepare to Die and no longer have two options to choose from.
Perhaps the few criticisms DigitalFoundry has will be patched at a later date. Until then, as always, try not to die.
When Dark Souls was initially released on PC, it was clearly a rushed console port. But thanks to DSfix by famed modder Durante, we were finally able to change the rendering resolution and mod textures. Still, the keyboard and mouse controls were abysmal. PC purists didn’t have a clear route into what so many consider one of the greatest games ever made.
With DarkSoulsMouseFix, which just entered a 1.0 beta status, those problems are solved. Here’s the feature list for the initial release according to the download page:
Dark Souls Pc Controller Not Working
We’ve yet to try it for ourselves, but players in where we found out about the mod seem very, very happy. It’s far from perfect—players are also reporting plenty of bugs—but for those who can't wrap their minds or hands around a controller, DarkSoulsMouseFix is a significant step forward. Dark Souls is finally a real PC game. Now I can annoy even more friends with unsolicited praise for one of my favorite games ever.
Give the mod a shot for yourself by downloading it from the PC gaming wiki, where the installation instructions are also provided.
Whatever Dark Souls maestros From Software have planned for their next game proper is an only slightly-teased mystery, but here’s some fine news to make our own souls ache less during that wait. Dark Souls, the original and greatest in the series (Bloodborne excepted) and also one of the best PC games ever, sez us, is getting a remastered edition.
Dark Souls Iii Pc Controls
Update: confirmed for PC on May 25 via Steam, with 60FPS 4K support. Hurrah!
Now, officially all we know is that Dark Souls: Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch this May, but mere hours before that, Kotaku UK ran with a rumour they claim to have verified from multiple sources, saying that a) Switch version to be announced today b) it’s coming to PS4, Xbone and – praise that ol’ fire-orb – PC too. They were on the money for the first part, so let’s pray the same’s true for the second.
For your first glimpse of DSR, here’s an announcement trailer:
We’re hoping to hear confirmation about other versions very soon (edit – have it, see below), and will update this piece as and when. There’s a timer on the Dark Souls Japanese website which looks set to reach its end in just a few minutes, which will hopefully reveal all.
Meantime, the Switch version lands on May 25: “Beautifully remastered, return to Lordran in stunning detail,” claim Ninty. Fallout new vegas alternate start wont work. Fingers crossed for a day’n’date PC release too.
Dark Souls Better Pc Controls Windows 10
Update: and that is indeed the case, it’s been confirmed to us – Souls Remastered on PC, on May 25th this year.
